About Our House

History

When it was mooted that Newcastle would be consolidating it's medical resources into a brand new Hospital, the John Hunter at Rankin Park, a Board was formed and the fundraising wheel began. With incredible community support our Hunter Ronald McDonald House became a reality opening its doors in April 1991.

A couple of years down the track it became obvous that more accommodation was needed and in June 1995 we officially opened our four bedroom extension - once again thanks to the generous support of the Hunter community.

In January 2006 we added a further 6 Units bringing our total to 18. These 2 bedroom Units are all fully self contained, with their own laundry and cooking facilities, to cater for children with low immune systems.
