What does Ronald McDonald House in the Hunter do?

The mission of Ronald McDonald House in the Hunter is to enhance the quality of life for out-of-town families with seriously ill children through a caring and supportive home away from home. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere for families and their children where the familiar routines of home life can continue as much as possible. The House offers an atmosphere of compassion and understanding in a stressful and often frightening time.

Who operates the House?

Ronald McDonald House is owned and operated by Red Gum House Inc., a charitable nonprofit organization. Its Board of Directors consists of volunteer members from business, medical and community backgrounds. The house is run by a small staff and more than one hundred volunteers.

Staying Here

Admissions:

Admission is generally for out-of-town families living a minimum of one hours drive from the House. Priority is given to families of children with life threatening and serious illness. Unfortunately, rooms cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Hours:

First-time residents can register Mon to Fri 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Repeat registration is available 24 hrs a day.

Parking:

Parking is available at the House.

Check-Outs:

Wherever possible, we ask that families check out by 2 p.m. so that a new arrival can make use of the room.

Length of Stay:

Whilst ever the doctor agrees that the child patient needs to have an escort you are welcome at Ronald McDonald House.
